More gods than you can shake a stick at?
I recently took a world religions class and came to a conclusion.
It seems like every religion I can think of, every pantheon, has a certain number of dieties. This number is either "one or less" or "I lost count after the three-headed dude", sometimes both at once.
I am at a loss however to think of any religion/mythology that has a polytheistic pantheon without being animistic, any grouping that has, say, 4-12 gods. The greeks had twelve olympian gods, but also minor dieties such as Janus and Hecate, not to mention their predecessors the titans.
Maybe the problem is in me, and how I define gods. =/ Maybe it's with the system that mythologists use.
Can anyone think of a faith with a comfortably finite yet multiple number of dieties?
